About Richard J. Pettit
Dick Pettit, M.D., received his undergraduate degree in Biology at George Mason University in 1974 and received his medical degree from VCU’s Medical College of Virginia (MCV) in 1978. He then completed a general surgery residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, New Hampshire. He is board certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Pettit served as Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Missouri Medical School-Kansas City and Assistant Professor of Surgery, after residency, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. He has served as Chairman of Surgery at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital as well as multiple other committees. He is an active member of both the Richmond Academy of Medicine and the Medical Society of Virginia.
Dr. Pettit practices all aspects of general surgery and surgical oncology related to breast, endocrine, abdominal and colorectal disease. He and his medical assistant, Kristina Truesdale, also provide a unique expertise in the management of complex hernia problems and have a special interest in abdominal wall reconstruction in many of these patients.
Dr. Pettit has two children and enjoys outdoor sports, music and drumming.
